1990-1994
In 1990, Ms. Hsueh-Ni Tsai and Mr. Guang-Ying Chao established the Kon Wen Cultural Foundation, inviting experts and scholars from various fields to join the education sector. The foundation served the educational needs of people across different age groups, promoting early childhood parent-child learning sessions, organizing award ceremonies for outstanding students, conducting parenting education lectures to provide diverse teaching methods for parents, and holding the Taiwan Regional the KUMON method Research Symposium to increase public awareness of the KUMON learning method. -
1995-1999
As the KUMON method gradually gained recognition in Taiwan, the foundation was awarded the "Outstanding Contribution to Parenting Education Award" by Minister Wu Jing of the Ministry of Education. It subsequently established the Kon Wen Community Learning Academy and the Kon Wen Community Library, laying a solid foundation. In collaboration with Kon Wen tutoring centers, the foundation hosted numerous "Kon Wen Cup Fast Hands Number Board Competitions" across various regions, allowing parents and children to experience the joy and sense of achievement in learning. Additionally, the foundation organized the "Cross-Strait Women's Exchange Seminar" to facilitate in-depth discussions and cooperation on educational topics. -
2000-2004
The foundation actively promoted the KUMON method beyond its initial reach and invested efforts in public welfare activities. This included launching the "119 Help Me" Free Academic Diagnosis Program and the Parent-Child Deep Reading Program, which helped parents understand their children's abilities and strengthen parent-child interaction. The foundation also distributed free multiplication CDs and multiplication tables to share learning resources and donated Ministry of Education scholarships to provide ongoing educational opportunities for underprivileged students. Additionally, it co-organized summer camps and study-abroad programs with organizations such as the China Youth Corps and the Ryukyu Nichia Foreign Language Institute. -
2005-2009
To further give back to society, the foundation established a Parenting Education Volunteer Group and launched the "Brewing Happiness" Prenatal Education Seminar. It also collaborated with the Taipei City Department of Education to organize the Parent-Child Growth Learning Camp, providing comprehensive family support. Additionally, the foundation hosted the first "Elite of the Elites" Kon Wen Gold Achievement Award Ceremony, recognizing students' perseverance and dedication. Furthermore, it signed an empowerment curriculum experiment agreement with Tunghai University Affiliated Senior High School to introduce the KUMON educational materials to schools in need. -
2010-2014
Faced with a lack of learning resources in certain areas, the foundation actively participated in county and city cooperation projects, implementing various School Enhancement Programs, including those at DaJia Elementary School in Taipei, YueMei Elementary School in Keelung, and JianAn Elementary School in New Taipei City. These initiatives provided children with comprehensive learning materials and professional tutoring. Additionally, to assist foreign spouses in improving their Mandarin skills, the foundation co-organized a Mandarin language proficiency and parenting education subsidy program with Dahu Township in Miaoli. At the same time, it participated in and sponsored the Kaohsiung Children's Art Education Festival. -
2015-2019
To expand its service reach, the foundation organized lectures such as "Cultivating Children's Character through Education" and "Reading Aloud for Love" and co-promoted the 2015 International Education Forum with Parenting World. In terms of county and city cooperation, it sponsored the Kaohsiung Education Bureau’s Excellent Teacher Recognition Program, participated in the New Taipei City Outstanding Underprivileged Student Dream Fulfillment Program, and collaborated with the Kaohsiung City Government Social Affairs Bureau to promote a poverty alleviation and self-sufficiency initiative. The school empowerment project was also extended to sports students, with programs introduced to Yijia Junior High School and Zhongxiao Junior High School in Kaohsiung to help improve the foundational academic abilities of sports program students. -
2020-2021Co-organized the Kaohsiung Model Filial Family Event
To support the Ministry of Education’s promotion of "515 International Family Day," the foundation actively participated in the Kaohsiung City Education Bureau’s Model Filial Family event. Based on the annual event themes, the foundation prepared activities such as puzzle games, arts and crafts, and fun obstacle courses, encouraging parents and children to collaborate in completing tasks, thereby fostering children's critical thinking skills and strengthening parent-child relationships. -
2020-2021Research Project - LongPu Elementary School, New Taipei City
From April to December 2021, in collaboration with Dr. Ming-Hsueh Tsai’s research project, the foundation introduced Kumon mathematics materials to LongPu Elementary School in New Taipei City. A total of 24 fifth-grade students participated in this empowerment program. Analyzing the pre- and post-test results showed that students in the research program exhibited stronger intrinsic motivation, improved learning abilities, and increased confidence. -
2020-2021Hosted Expert Lectures
Since its establishment in 1990, the foundation has organized numerous expert lectures for teachers and parents in need. Although the pandemic temporarily interrupted these events, they were resumed in 2021, with an increasing number of sessions held each year and an expanded range of topics. Scholars from various fields were invited to provide valuable educational resources for educators and parents. -
2020-2021Participated in the Ministry of Education’s Lifelong Learning Reading Program
Since 2021, the foundation has participated in the Ministry of Education’s Lifelong Learning Circle Reading Program, hosting lectures such as "Choosing a Book for Your Child," "English Storyland" reading activities, "Reading for Joy" student reading groups, and the "Parent-Child Shared Reading" lecture series. These initiatives have promoted reading while also providing valuable resources for teachers and parents, receiving enthusiastic responses. -
2022School Enhancement Program - SanMin Junior High School, Hualien County
Starting from March 1, 2022, to support SanMin Junior High School in a rural area of Hualien County, the foundation introduced Kumon mathematics materials at the invitation of Principal Guo Yuan Lin. The program was conducted via correspondence learning, providing tutoring for 21 students from the 7th to 9th grades. Initially, some students had to start with preschool-level materials, but after six months, they had reached the equivalent of second-grade level. The most advanced students were able to perform division with two-digit quotients. With the foundation’s support, the students significantly improved their overall academic performance. -
2022Co-hosted a Special Seminar and Forum on "Theories and Implementation Strategies for Cultivating Self-Directed Learning Skills in Elementary and Junior High School Students"
On April 22-23, 2022, the foundation co-hosted an online seminar with the Taiwan Self-Directed Learning Promotion Association. The event featured distinguished scholars, includingHonorary Professor Wu Tian Wu, Dr. Tsai Ming Hsueh, Deputy Director Zong Da Wu, Professor Tian Ci Zhou, Professor Fu Cai Hong, Associate Researcher Yong Shan Hong, Director Ren Zong Wu, Elementary School Teacher Yan You Lin, Professor Cui Jun Hu. Each expert analyzed self-directed learning from different perspectives, aiming to help children harness their self-learning abilities and unlock their limitless potential. -
2022Research Project - LongPu Elementary School, New Taipei City
In September 2022, Dr. MingHsueh Tsai of the National Academy for Educational Research introduced Kumon Mandarin learning materials to fourth-grade students at Longpu Elementary School in New Taipei City. A total of 29 students participated in the "Self-Directed Learning Development Program for Fourth-Grade Reading Skills," which aimed to enhance students' independent learning abilities through reading education. -
2022School Empowerment Project - DaJia Junior High School, Taichung City
In September 2022, Dr. MingJuan Hsieh of the National Academy for Educational Research conducted an experimental study on "Self-Directed Learning in Mathematics for Seventh-Grade Students." The foundation introduced Kumon mathematics materials to DaJia Junior High School, benefiting 30 students. After a year of implementation, students experienced a noticeable improvement in their academic performance through the KUMON method. Their confidence and enthusiasm for learning increased, and their sense of achievement became a driving force for their studies. -
2023School Enhancement Program - ZhongXiao Junior High School, Kaohsiung City
In September 2023, in alignment with the Kaohsiung City Education Bureau’s learning assistance initiative, the foundation renewed its agreement with ZhongXiao Junior High School in Kaohsiung to implement the "Mathematics Empowerment Program" for Sports Class Students Using the KUMON method. This program provided 21 student-athletes with professional learning materials and tutoring support, aiming to restore their confidence in learning, establish a solid academic foundation, and inspire them to push beyond their limits. -
2023School Enhancement Program - ChungHer and DerHer Elementary Schools, Keelung City
In September 2023, the foundation collaborated with the Keelung City Department of Education to introduce Kumon mathematics materials to second-grade students at Zhonghe and Dehe Elementary Schools. The one-year empowerment program yielded remarkable results: 49% of the students caught up with their grade level, while 28% exceeded third-grade proficiency. Most students expressed a strong desire for more learning opportunities, demonstrating their enthusiasm for education. -
2023Co-hosted a Special Seminar and Forum on "Self-Directed Learning and Its Development"
On December 7, 2023, the foundation co-hosted an academic seminar with the Taiwan Self-Directed Learning Promotion Association. Dr. Ming Hsueh Tsai, Dr. Ming Juan Xie, and Professor Tian Ci Zhou each presented research findings on the theme of "Self-Directed Learning," discussing its definition and application. The seminar reaffirmed that self-directed learning is an essential skill for adapting to the future. -
2024Kon Wen Cultural Foundation Official Website Launched
With the expansion of projects and operations, the foundation aims to provide more resources to society through an accessible and transparent online platform. The website serves as a comprehensive archive of initiatives and achievements, allowing the public to gain deeper insight into the foundation’s journey. At the same time, it reinforces the foundation’s commitment to talent cultivation and its mission to spread hope in various communities.
