A Guiding Star for Children|Family Support and Child Protection
The press conference for “A Guiding Star for Children – The Safety Net Action,” hosted by DeYu Education Group and co-organized by our Foundation, was held on Tuesday morning, November 25, at the Taipei City Government. In partnership with the Taipei City Department of Social Welfare, the initiative aims to build the strongest possible protective network for children through education and ongoing support.
As children growing up in the digital age are exposed to the internet at increasingly younger ages, they also face heightened risks such as cyberbullying, online sexual exploitation, and other forms of digital harm. To create a safer and more secure learning and living environment for children, the Taipei City Government has led Taiwan Coalition Against Violence, bringing together six key forces—the judiciary, law enforcement, education, social welfare agencies, after-school education providers, and parents to jointly advance a more comprehensive child protection

During the press conference, Yi-Hua Lin, the Deputy Mayor of Taipei City stated that the city government remains firmly committed to the prevention of gender-based violence, strengthening family support, and safeguarding children and youth. This initiative places particular emphasis on reinforcing protective measures in out-of-school settings, marking an important milestone in the prevention of digital sexual violence. The Deputy Mayor expressed her hope that every child can grow up in a safe environment—where the internet is no longer a gateway to risk and that every adult can become a “guardian star” for children.

Winnie Wen-Yu Chao, CEO of DeYu Education Group and President of our Foundation, shared that as educators, their responsibility goes beyond talent development to supporting families and safeguarding children’s physical and mental well-being. He emphasized that educational institutions, government agencies, and communities must work together to ensure that children feel secure and understood as they grow, enabling them to explore the digital world with confidence and peace of mind.

As part of the “A Guiding Star for Children – The Safety Net Action,” a total of 20 workshops will be held to support after-school education providers and parents in understanding emerging forms of digital sexual violence. These workshops will equip participants with appropriate response strategies for incidents such as unauthorized image sharing and online harm, while also helping families build more effective parent–child communication.
Looking ahead, DeYu Education Group will mobilize more than 180 KUMON Learning Centers across Taiwan to take part in the initiative. Through awareness campaigns, parent engagement, and learning activities, the program aims to strengthen children’s digital safety awareness, making online safety an integral part of everyday life.
Through cross-sector collaboration, we look forward to fostering a closer, community-based culture of co-education, where safeguarding children is not only a responsibility, but a shared commitment—one rooted in mutual support and collective care as children grow.
