SanMin Junior High School, located in Yuli Township, Hualien County, is a remote school with limited resources. To enhance students’ academic performance, Principal Lin Guo-Yuan collaborated with the foundation to introduce KUMON mathematics through a correspondence-based tutoring program for 21 students across grades 7, 8, and 9.

Students who initially had to start with early elementary-level materials reached second-grade proficiency within six months. The most advanced students were able to perform division with two-digit quotients. The program helped students of all levels improve their academic abilities.
